Dr. Bruno's Story

Local doctor. Committed father. Caring leader.

Dr Richard BrunoDr. Richard Bruno, M.D. is a practicing physician right here in Baltimore. A man dedicated to public service and social justice, Dr. Bruno cares for our city's uninsured in his clinic every day.

As a child growing up in Little Rock, Arkansas, Richard and his family struggled, at one point relying on food stamps just to get by. Things weren't easy, but in these tough times, Richard began his career serving others as a counselor at a camp for children with disabilities.

As a young man, Dr. Bruno witnessed the injustice of our country's for-profit healthcare system firsthand when his high school friend died from a brain tumor that could have been treated if his family had health insurance.

It was then that Richard decided to dedicate his life to fighting for healthcare for all.

The Bruno Family moved to Baltimore so Dr. Bruno could complete his residency in primary care and public health after attending medical school in Portland, Oregon.

During his residency, Dr. Bruno helped write legislation and testified to legislators in Annapolis on public health bills. He has beenBrunoFam.jpg active with local unions, joining the fight for healthcare workers at Chase Brexton seeking a union contract, and rallying for a living wage with his fellow Hopkins workers. He helped found Friends of Hampden School No. 55, which supports the neighborhood public school in the face of budget cuts.

Dr. Bruno has been a committed advocate for his patients, being arrested and spending the day in jail this summer in Washington, D.C., when Senator Tom Cotton refused to meet with him and fellow healthcare advocates to discuss a proposed repeal of the ACA (Obamacare).

Dr. Bruno works for the Baltimore Medical System, where he treats the uninsured. Dr. Bruno is running for State Delegate to take his fight for healthcare and justice from the clinic to the House of Delegates.

Richard and his wife, Mary, have a nine-year-old daughter and a four-year-old son.
